Brockton Workers Alliance's leaders go canvassing

Image
Brockton Workers Alliance's volunteers, jointly with the  Health Care for All , are going door-to-door in the city of Brockton to make sure everyone is protected. Our four volunteers (who can be found at supermarkets, food distribution points and churches) are reaching out and educating the community in as many languages as possible. That is in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Portuguese.   Some of our volunteers that went canvassing this last week In addition to providing the community members with all the relevant information about the COVID-19 Vaccine, our leaders are registering people to get appointments and distributing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) among the neighbors.  Our leaders are tirelessly working on the ground to keep the community safe and protected. Brockton Food Pantry

Image
In the last months, the Brockton Workers Alliance has been working with Fair Foods Inc and the Trinity Baptist Church to make a Community Food Distribution. Together we have made a food pantry that we assemble every other week, and where our volunteers provide those who attend with fresh food packages for 2$ per bag. This campaign started in 2020 and it's still going on. For those interested in participating in the next calls for the food pantry, the programmed dates for April and May are shown in the picture. If you want to volunteer for any of the established days, contact us through our email : brocktonworkersalliance@gmail.com The food pantry has allowed us to reach out to Brockton's more vulnerable workers, a group that has been most impacted by the COVID-19 situation, trying to help with the situation of food insecurity that has worsened due to the pandemic. It has also served as a way to build connections, both between the different organizations involved and between the...

ELOISA GOMES' STORY

Image
Eloisa Gomes is 55 years old, came to the U.S. about six years ago with her three little kids from Cape Verde. She came here looking to find a better future for her family. For the last two years Luisa has been taking care of elderly and ill patients at their home in the suburbs of Newton Highlands, Needham and Natick. Since the Covid-19 pandemic started, Eloisa contracted the virus while caring for one of her patients and brought it home to her roommates and family. Eloisa has been having difficulties recovering as she suffers from asthma at an early age.  Her friend was able to care for her kids. However, Eloisa doesn't qualify for any government benefits. Her roommates also got sick with the virus and are afraid to even ask for help. It was through the radio announcement about the work the Brockton Workers Alliance is doing to educate and organize the community that Eloisa decided to ask for help. BWA has been supporting Eloisa, connecting her to resources, and is now a part of ...
